Once just a local refuge accessible only by ferry and now with a magnificent “Connector” bridge from Mount Pleasant that spans the marsh, crosses the Intracoastal Waterway and overlooks the Atlantic, is the beautiful beach town of Isle of Palms. One of South Carolina’s most popular barrier islands, the Isle of Palms is equally a residential town, a world class vacation destination, and a highly desirable second home retreat. A family beach with a small population of full time residents and even more investment owners, you will regularly get a neighborly waive from residents who travel the island streets in golf carts. The islands landscape is diverse from maritime forest and ocean dunes, to the Intracoastal Waterway and expansive marsh. The wildlife is subtle and beautiful from shorebirds, pelicans, ospreys, to dolphins and Loggerhead sea turtles.
Besides the Ocean and Intracoastal Waterway the Isle of Palms has four other points of interest. IOP Recreation Center features tennis, indoor/outdoor basketball courts, soccer fields, baseball/softball fields, a children's playground and a dog park. Down at "Front Beach" you’ll find many small shops, restaurants as well as great night-life, with live music entertainment at Coconut Joe's and The Windjammer. Here you can rent bikes, golf carts, and surfboards. The Isle of Palms Marina, a full service 5-acre marina with launch services, dockage, fuel, private fishing charters, a restaurant, and general store. Here you can rent boats, kayaks, paddle boards, and jet skis. The marina also offers ferry service to private nearby Dewees and Goat Islands, which are not accessible by vehicular traffic. Finally, the Wild Dunes Neighborhood & Resort with two 18-hole Tom Fazio golf courses; the Links and the Harbor courses, 17 tennis courts, numerous pools, privates beaches and six restaurants and cafes'.
The Isle of Palms Incorporated 1953, but significant development didn’t come until the late 1960’s and then again in the 1980’s, and continues today with a dozen or more individual homes-sites being constructed or renovated every year. Renovated one level ranch style homes are prevalent throughout original island developments. In these same areas you will also find large luxury beachfront and waterfront raised homes, built new in the traditional lowcountry character. By 1985 the Sea Pines Company had developed 1,600-acres at the north end of the island, now known as Wild Dunes. An affluent community of both vacation home owners and year-round residents, featuring a wide mix real estate and home options. With approximately 2,500 residences, Wild Dunes essentially splits IOP real estate. Isle of Palms children attended one of four (4) highly rated Mt. Pleasant schools that include one (1) High School, one (1) Middle School, and two (2) Elementary Schools. IOP has a full range of city services to include trash/recycling, police, fire, public works, judicial and general government.
Isle of Palms buyers have a myriad of home and property options with varied price ranges. IOP real estate comes in just about every size, style and location that you could desire. From individually constructed luxury deepwater, marsh and ocean view homes, to original ranchers, townhomes, villas, and condominiums, there is an IOP home for sale that can meet your needs.
With over six miles of white, sandy beaches the Isle of Palms truly has a little of everything South Carolina has to offer and the quality of life is outstanding! One of the best South Carolina coastal addresses and the beach lifestyle everyone comes seeking (and achieving), its time you called it Isle of Palms “home” too.
